Now That's What I Call Kate Bush, Yeah!

Avant Gig - RSAMD - February 2007

- a sonic performance installation created for gallery space, in collaboration Alastair Clarkson, an Honours BMus composer. Initially triggered by an obsession with the pop song 'The Red Shoes', I created a short interactive dance performance where I attempted to dance myself into oblivion. Showing this extract to Alastair, we opened up the material to wider references of the fairytale, working with recorded language (English, Danish, Spanish, German and Estonian), the cry of the female voice, the theme of vanity and the sound of a body (in particular, feet) moving in space. Alastair then created a tape part for the installation and I worked seperately to parody popular dance, find images from the text and create movement. Bringing these together in intensive sessions, we presented the work in progress at Avant Gig, an evening of contemporary composition in February.
